Back in 2017 we took three curly girls and gave them a Curl Spa Treatment with Lea Muses

Ever since then her salon chair has been booked. Thanks to our friends at Design Essentials for sponsoring the product. We were all instantly hooked to the Almond Avocado line and Coconut & Monoi line of shampoo, co wash (conditioning cleanser) and Coconut gel. The result was a wonderful soft shiny curl, with the light smell of tropical coconut.

Curly girls have more fun! Read about what your curly hair needs and how to use the best products for your ringlets. The world is a diverse melting pot and so is the cascading learning curve of curl types.

TYPE 1. Straight as an arrow.

Sorry girls, the party starts at type 2! But some people with straight hair can still suffer from frizz or static. We recommend using a lite protien based oil to seal hair down and battle the Dutch humidity, or office atmospheric dryness.

TYPE 2. Wavy rolling maiden bumps.

2A WAVY (STRAIGHT WAVY /LOOSE)

2B WAVY (ROLLING RIPPLES) 2C WAVY (MAIDEN BUMPS)

Botticelli Curls 2C / 3A Curl Spa

We treated the lovely curls of this Mom and Daughter duo with beautiful Botticelli curls. They were spoiled with our curl spa treatment using Design Essentials Coconut Monoi Line. We used the Coconut Moisturizing Shampoo and Soufflé to nourish and tame down the curl pattern & finished off with a bit of Design Essentials Curl Defining Mousse.

TYPE 3 CURLY

3A CURLY (SPRINGY & LOOSE)

3B CURLY (RINGS & SPIRALS)

3C CURLY (THICK COILS)

If you’re a type 3, than you know your hair has many faces. Depending on the product and combination of environment, water, temperature or cut. You can do ALOT with this type. Type 3 hair is the most common among mixed race divas. A very common thing type 3s say is.. “When I was young my mom didn’t know what to do with my hair.” This lions mane can be both wild and tame depending on how thirsty or loved it is.

Because all curly hair sort of has a mind of its own. The best way to control it is to cut it when its dry in a wash n go style. So wash and style your hair the way you like to then go and have a cut. Do not wet or wash it at the salon before you cut. This prevents shrinkage.

Our recommendations are:

HOLY GRAIL: LOC METHOD: LEAVE IN - OIL &CREME MOISTURE.

Co washing or Pre Poo

Pre condition your hair before washing with a creme based shampoo. Like Devacurl No Poo or Eden Body Works.

Regular trims prevent those rogue dreadlocks from forming especially if you are coloring your hair, you will have to counter balance with a lot of love and finger-combing.

Once a month use a good Clarifying Shampoo to stimulate growth and clear product build-up from your hair. we recommend Mixed Chicks Gentle Clarifying Shampoo

Deep condition and leave in! This hair can handle a lot of weight with products except for things that are too waxy or of a thicker oil base. These are better used for buns and ponytails but not if you are doing a wash and go style.

Best wet, wash, and go products are:

TYPE 4 KINKY TIGHTLY COILED

4A KINKY (AFRO SHINY COILS)

4B KINKY (PUFFY ZIG ZAGS)

4C KINKY (AFRO MICRO CURL)

This type has tight zigzags which can be molded and formed into many shapes. Needs lots of love and moisture and trims at least 4 times per year of minimum 1/4 inch each to maintain steady growth. The most common misconception about this hair type is that it doesn’t grow is dry and breaks easy. That’s totally untrue!

It just needs the right treatment and products and less drying chemical methods to be discarded if you are truly going to transition or have already transitioned to growing out your natural hair. Desirable lengths can be achieved with wearing more protective styles. Lengthening or Hair Stretching Techniques can be used to help coach the hair and create a more flowing result.

We can assist in your mission to grow your locks long and strong with some tips and tricks. If you have recently decided to go natural and get rid of your old methods this can be a very exciting and challenging time. Even learning new ways of combing and approaching your styling methods to suit transitioning to being the natural-born beauty that you are.

Products we stand by for styling type 4 hair:

Shea Butter this hair can handle a more buttery product mixed with a protein based oil like avocado or almond. A cream styling product derived from natural ingredients such as Shea, Aloe, and Cocoa Butter that seal in moisture very well and gently. Water is important! Both inside and out. Apply onto damp hair for best results.
